Now here’s something interesting.. first of all props to DJ Afrika Islam & Ice-T for coming up with this crazy vibe way back in ’87. In case you don’t know, it’s Ice-T’s track ‘Squeeze the Trigger’ featured on the ‘Rhyme Pays’ album from 1987.

Strangely enough, that same year.. across the metaphorical ‘genre’ pond, DJ Pierre (aka Phuture) kick-started a whole genre with the Roland TB303 and TR707 drum machine.. with ‘Acid Trax’. Fast forward a few years later and everyone was on the TR909 and the 303.. not only for Acid House, but Techno too! ..now, not drawing any conclusions, obviously they’re all very different styles.. however, I can’t recall a lot of rappers, or hiphop producers for that matter, using 909s with 303s.
So, respect to Ice-T & DJ Afrika Islam for going there.. still a mad sound, IMHO
