I don’t have a huge following, and I work a regular 9-5 job, but that doesn’t mean that brands don’t need what I have to offer. The truth is that brands are hungry for content, agencies are expensive, and there’s always a place in a brands marketing mix for UGC or user generated content. It creates authenticity and brand trust, and that’s something that smaller, more engaged creators are uniquely positioned to make.

1. DESIGN A PITCH LETTER. Every brand engagement starts with a pitch letter. A good pitch letter should cover who you are, what your skills are, and what you can offer to the brand that they don’t currently have, or how you can help enhance their social content. BONUS: You can easily use prompts in Chat GPT or Bard to create a pitch letter template that you can reuse to help you stay consistent.

2. BUILD YOUR PORTFOLIO: Shoot the things you already have. Start creating content that tells a story and helps others realize what value different products or services are bringing to your life. Focus on what people get out of the experience with the product or service.

3. USE YOUR CONTENT AS PART OF YOUR PITCH. The pitch letter is a great start, but linking to content that you’ve created is even better. Showing is better than telling.

4. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. I know that this sounds hokey, but belief in your ability to deliver engaging content that tells a story and engages users just like you is a key to sending out these pitch letters. Even if you don’t think you have what it takes to create for brands, you do. Just start.
